Chili Orange Country Style Ribs Recipe

Country Style pork ribs are actually not ribs at all.  They are part of the pork shoulder and cut into long strips, either bone-in or boneless.  We love to eat country style ribs prepared in the crockpot over low heat for 6-8 hours as that makes them fork tender and delicious.  You can also cook over low heat in the oven or grill, but if you plan to grill your ribs, you should either boil in water first or cook in the oven over low heat before grilling so that they can get cooked all the way through properly.

Safeway has country style ribs on sale for $1.88/lb right now – so this is a great time to try a new recipe for these ribs.

Chili Orange Country Style Ribs Recipe

The original recipe calls for boiling the ribs for 45 minutes, then grilling.  I made this recipe in the crock pot by simply combining all the ingredients and cooking on low for 8 hours.  I did first spray the crock pot with cooking spray to prevent the hoisin and chili sauce from sticking.  I used orange juice instead of apple and I skipped the grill and the ribs were amazing!  Moist, tender and so flavorful!  My kids and husband devoured them and asked for more.  If you want to do the boil and grill method, follow these steps below.

Place the ribs in a 4 to 5 quart Dutch oven. Add apple juice and cover. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 45 minutes or until tender.

Combine the chili sauce, hoisin sauce, orange rind, sriracha sauce and brown sugar in a small bowl.

Prepare medium-hot fire in charcoal grill or preheat gas grill to medium high.

Remove ribs from the Dutch oven and pat dry. Place ribs on grill and grill over medium hot fire 8 to 10 minutes or until glazed, turning once, and brushing with sauce.
