Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon apple butter
  • 3 tablespoons butter divided
  • 1/4 cup Honeycrisp apple diced

Instructions

  • Make the custard in a medium bowl by whisking the egg, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and apple butter.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet.
  • Dip the bread into the custard, saturating both sides, then place the bread into the hot skillet.  Cook the French toast for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and toasted.
  • In a separate skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the diced apples.  Top with ground cinnamon and stir to coat.   Cook the apples for about 5 minutes until golden and caramelized.
  • Plate the French Toast, top with a dollop of apple butter and the caramelized apples.  Garnish with powdered sugar if desired.
