Ingredients

Beef and Broccoli Ingredients

  • 1 lb. petite sirloin steak thinly sliced
  • 1 lb. broccoli cut into thin florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil divided
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • Steamed Rice for serving

Stir Fry Sauce

  • 1 inch nob fresh ginger grated
  • 3 cloves garlic finely minced or grated
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 6 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons corn starch

Instructions

  • Prepare the rice so that it is ready when the stir fry is done.
  • Thinly slice the steak into 1/8 inch - 1/4 inch strips.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, sesame oil, hot water, soy sauce and corn starch until smooth and the sugar dissolves.  Set aside.
  • In a large non-stick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat and add the broccoli to the pan.  Saute for 5 minutes until bright green and tender.  You can also cover and let the broccoli steam slightly for 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the broccoli from the pan and set it aside.
  • Increase the heat to high and add 1 tablespoon oil to the pan.  Add the sliced beef in a single layer and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until the steak is cooked through.  You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your pan.
  • Add the sauce to the beef and reduce the heat to medium.  Allow the sauce to thicken, which will take about 4-5 minutes.  Add the broccoli and stir to combine.  Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.  Serve with rice of choice.
