Safeway monopoly game

2016 Safeway Monopoly Shop, Play, Win! Game

Safeway just launched a new Monopoly Shop, Play, Win game that runs February 3rd through May 3rd.  This is a popular game that was brought to Safeway from Albertsons as a result of the merger.   The game is also in effect at Albertsons locations with the same board and game pieces.

See the 2017 Safeway Monopoly Game Details here.

How does it work:

1.  Pick up a Monopoly Game Board at your local Safeway store.

2.  Every time you shop at Safeway, you get a game ticket.  You will also get an additional “bonus” game tickets by purchasing specially tagged products. Inside the game tickets, you will find 4 game markers, and either a Special Discount Offer, Online Game Code, Instant Win Prize or 2 free Game Tickets Coupons.

3.  Stick the tickets to the Monopoly board to win great prizes. Or, play online with the online game tickets.

Certain game pieces will have a online game code which is a 12 alpha-numeric code that you will be able to enter online at www.playmonopoly.us.

Here are the prizes.  You have a chance to win up to $165 million in prizes:  There are instant win pieces to look for as well as coupons that can be redeemed at Safeway stores.

I suggest if you have kids 8 and older that you get them involved in sticking the tickets to the board because it can be time consuming, but fun also for them!

Good luck!  Let us know if you win anything!

  1. I read somewhere in rules that you can’t use tape to put stickers on board, but. I saw a post suggesting that you do this. I wonder if you will be eliminated if you do use tape? I also wonder if you can win more than one prize by using the same game board. For instance, if you get all tickets required for multiple prizes.. Do you have to turn in different game boards for each one?

    1. Thank you for your comment. The official rules do say, “Do not affix game markers to the game board (with glue or tape) in a permanent manner.” My post has been updated and the tape reference removed.

  2. Note to the moderator: I expect you will not really let this be posted. It’s ok…as long as you know that I know, it is enough.

I really enjoyed figuring out the puzzle and hope I will get one of the realistic $5-$100 prizes! (The puzzle is how the company will be saved from paying the entire $165 million.) The game is unlikely to pay out many prizes over $5000 from the board as there seem to be at least two rare tickets for each of those prizes (maybe 3 for the million dollars). As an example, you need BOTH the rare “?622D” and the rare “?625G” pieces to get the $500K vacation home. There will probably be only 3 of each of these printed. If you do get one of the two; the only likely way is to win is a major search for someone with the other rare piece who wants to share the house. By the rules, they only pay out the “second chance drawing” for $500K if none of the 6 top prizes are given out. They list the “second chance drawing” winner from last year which shows they didn’t pay last year and no one should realistically expect they will pay out the top 6 prizes this year. Paying $500K instead of 4.5 million…good economics. I actually kind of like the idea that my grocery bills will not have to go up to pay for many of the prizes.

    1. Thank you, I checked and that is the same numbers that I am missing. I think it is interesting that I have the same missing numbers. A for example is A502C, A504E.
$613C and $618H. It is fun playing, but would rather see more winners instead of the two top prizes. A $5.00 win would be fine, at least you know that you played and won something.
      Good luck everyone.

    2. For what its worth? I have RARE piece ?622D anyone have the other rare piece ?625G? I would be happy to split the 500K vacation home.

  3. The express checkout at my local Safeway doesn’t give out any bonus pieces nor do they have the time to give out new ones on each purchase(s). Am always being told to go to Customer Service where the lines are normally very very long…. most likely due to the express checkout not being able to handle this. I pretty much walk out of the store each time without any new playing pieces. Is there a better way to do this (short of having to snail mail a letter for one piece at a time)?
    Thanks !!

  4. I was wondering what the difference is between the green and yellow game pieces.
Does anyone know why there are different colored game pieces and how you get the yellow ones instead of the green ones?

  5. The whole thing is poorly designed. It’s a chore to open the tiny perforated envelopes and separate the four rectangular game pieces within. The pieces (and corresponding rectangles on the board) are very small, with a tiny lick-and-stick, just barely adhesive strip on the back. It’s also hard to read the letter/number combo, located at the top of each piece. The “fun factor” is zero.

      1. do you have anything better to do? just think, you might win something. what does it take to tear apart a game piece? find a flat table and put the board on it and then sit down and affix the game pieces to their designated spots.

    1. I agree! its a pain in the butt, and Im sure that of the stickers for the big prizes, at least one of the several numbers required to win the prize is rarer than a dodobird. Yet Im still slaving over that dumb board and those flimsy, hard to read, poorly adhesive stickers. Id better win something dammit! Lol

  6. My game pieces from Safeway all start with a J and don’t match the board. They are for all different prizes but no matter what the prize from the car to gift cards the first letter is a J? The # immediately following is either a 7 or 8 and don’t match either but the last 2 numbers and the last letter do match the gameboard- I am confused!

    1. There are multiple stores (like Albertson’s, Safeway, market street in Texas, etc.) playing the game simultaneously. The share the same prizes so they don’t have to give out as many of them. I think your safeway got some of the wrong tickets; or they maybe gave you employee only tickets. I would take them back and ask for replacements.

  7. I was just wondering if there is just the one game board or another? My game board is letters K-Z , I have game peices that would be for a board lettered A-J. So my question is is there just one board K-Z, or two boards A-J & K-Z?

    1. All the letters are on the one board. You have to turn it over for some and some are in the middle of the page.
