How to Grill Veggies

Grilling vegetables is incredibly easy, but there are a few tips and tricks that can help ensure you get perfectly grilled veggies every time.

If you are using cut vegetables, be sure to slice them into even pieces so that they cook through at the same time.  I like a 1 1/2 inch  to 2 inch piece for my veggies, because they grill quickly and that’s large enough to add to recipes or fork on it’s own.  Any smaller and you risk losing the vegetable flavor.

Vegetables should be cooked over direct heat and I like to use a medium high flame to get a little char on my veggies.

Vegetables can be cooked in a grill basket, on foil, or in a aluminum foil pan container or even directly on the grill if you have large enough vegetables like thin long slices of zucchini, eggplant, or even corn and cabbage.

Before you grill, you want to toss the veggies in a touch of olive oil and your seasoning of choice so that they don’t stick to the surface.

Veggies can take anywhere from 5 minutes per side for thin sliced thin vegetables to 20 minutes for a basket full of vegetables.  Have your tongs ready to turn the veggies or gently toss a few times during the grilling process to ensure even cooking and great grill marks on all the veggies.

Adding Flavor to Grilled Veggies

While salt and pepper are great seasoning starters, you can add so much flavor to your veggies by using a seasoning blend.  The same veggies grilled every night can take on a new and different flavor every time.   Depending on which flavor you crave, there is a McCormick Grill Mates Seasoning blend available to satisfy your craving.  Whether you want sweet, savory, smoky, spicy or zesty, you can change up the flavors with every grilled veggie dish you make.
