New Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg Breakfast Bowls

Safeway now carries NEW Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg breakfast bowls in the egg and dairy case at your local store.  With the new Just Crack an Egg breakfast, you get hot, fluffy scrambled eggs packed with all the fixings in under two minutes. Simply crack a fresh egg over chopped veggies, shredded cheese, hearty meats and Ore Ida Potatoes, then stir, microwave, and enjoy.   The best part is that these contain no artificial preservatives, flavors or dyes.  A simple breakfast that you can make and take on the go, or enjoy in your kitchen.

Safeway carries three of four available flavors of the Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg Breakfast Bowls – All American Scramble Kit, Denver Scramble Kit, and the Ultimate Scramble  Kit.  Each has a unique flavor profile and can be ready in 1.5 minutes in your home microwave.

I received each of the flavors available at Safeway to review and share with you here.  I tried each with my three kids as they love eggs and eat eggs for breakfast at least three days a week.  Our two favorite flavors were the All American Scramble, with crisp bacon and gooey cheese and the Ultimate Scramble Kit with flavorful sausage and veggies.

So – these do not come with the egg, each package contains the meat, veggies and cheese and you provide the egg, which makes these a great option to eat at home, not necessarily at the office, unless you keep a carton of eggs on hand.  I would personally not risk taking a raw egg with me to work to make this breakfast bowl, but maybe if you open the package just slightly and nestle the egg inside among the fillings it would be ok.  I did not test, so I cannot vouch if it will work.  The benefit to adding your own egg is that you know it’s fresh and if you prefer cage free or organic eggs – you can control what egg you add to the bowl.

Just Crack an Egg Denver

To prepare these new breakfast egg cups is incredibly easy – simply open each filling package and pour the veggies, meat and cheese into the bowl and crack a fresh egg into the bowl.  Stir and microwave.  The directions have you microwave for 40 seconds, then stir and  microwave again.  I did that for the first two I made but for the third I simply microwaved it for 70 seconds and stirred at the end and it turned out just fine.

Review of Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg All American Scramble Kit

Just crack an egg bacon kit

The All American Scramble Kit was hands down my kid’s favorite breakfast bowl. The All American Scramble Kit contains potatoes, sharp cheddar cheese and uncured bacon.  The flavor you get is cheesy bacon and eggs.

I didn’t get a lot of potato flavor, but I liked knowing it was there because it added volume to the eggs.  When these come out of the microwave after the full cooking time, there was some liquid left, (maybe egg, maybe melted cheese, maybe liquid from veggies) however rather than putting it back into the microwave and overcooking the eggs, I simply stirred and because the rest of the bowl was so hot, everything got incorporated and cooked through and tasted delicious!

Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg Review – Denver Scramble Kit

The Just Crack an Egg Denver Scramble has the traditional peppers, onions, potatoes, cheddar cheese and applewood smoked ham.  While the Denver Scramble was good, it needed salt and pepper to add more flavor, whereas the other varieties were packed with flavor and delicious!

The eggs were fluffy and I definitely got some of the ham flavor, although it was not as strong as I expected.  I was nervous that my kids wouldn’t like the veggies, but they ate gobbled them up and enjoyed them.

When these bowls come out of the microwave after the full cooking time, there was some liquid left, (part egg, part melted cheese, part liquid from veggies) however rather than putting it back into the microwave and overcooking the eggs, I simply stirred and because the rest of the bowl was so hot, everything got incorporated and cooked through and tasted delicious!  So – don’t overcook because it will ruin the bowl.

Review of the Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg Ultimate Scramble Kit

The Just Crack an Egg Ultimate Scramble Kit has crumbled pork sausage, cheddar cheese, onions, red and green peppers, and potatoes.  This was another favorite in our house because of the sausage.

My six year old asked about the red bell pepper, but one bite and she was sold that it was delicious and she wanted more.  Unlike the Denver Scramble Kit, these were full the flavor and did not need any extra salt or pepper.  The eggs were fluffy, the sausage and cheese flavorful and the classic Ore-Ida potatoes and peppers mix added flavor and texture to the eggs.

These new Ore-Ida Just Crack an Egg breakfast bowls are available in the dairy section next to the eggs at your local Safeway.  They retail for $2.79
