Well, tried the coupon with two mac ‘n cheese, as you suggested. Did not work at all. NO credit at all (not $1 or even 50 cents off for the one item). So, will be returning the mac ‘n cheese and seeing if there’s something that is a $1 or more and maybe it’ll work with that! Good luck to others trying to get THIS “freebie.”
Which Safeway store did you go to where the $1 off TWO mac ‘n cheese worked? I’d like to go to that one, as it doesn’t work at the stores near me (Capitol Hill neighborhood). Apparently the individual stores’ computer software is slightly different from one another.
I have one problem with your “free” deal. The Safeway stores around me will only give 50 cents off instead of the full $1, as the ONE item is only 50 cents. This is based on past experience. Even when I have a coupon for $1 off TWO of something, the system will reject it as a “negative” sale because it only sees the amount, NOT the fact that it is on TWO items – if one item costs less than the coupon, then the system rejects it. WHEN I have a $1 off TWO coupon, the attendant cashier at the self checkout will override the system and credit the full amount. Not always so when the coupon is on ONE item, even if I am buying two (like the mac ‘n cheese). Have you not had this same problem? It has occurred in several different Safeway stores, not just one, so I assume it is the software that is unable to see the quantity on coupons (not just amount off).
