Blueberry Pie Smoothie
In an effort to promote healthy eating this month, I’ve partnered with WhiteWave Foods to create a new smoothie to promote their NEW Silk Protein & Nut Milk. Imagine all the delicious flavors of a blueberry pie – cinnamon, blueberries and the crust, all mixed together in a scrumptious smoothie! This blueberry pie smoothie recipe uses only 5 simple ingredients – protein nut milk, frozen blueberries, a banana, whole oats and ground cinnamon. I sometimes top it with fresh blueberries and granola for an extra crunch.
Silk just launched their new Silk Protein & Nut Milk in conjunction with the Fill Your Cart and Save promotion that has been running at Safeway all month long in an effort to promote healthier food choices for the new year. I was excited when I saw the new Almond, Cashew and Pea Protein milk on the shelf at Safeway because as a loyal almond milk drinker, I love the extra protein that you get with this milk. It has 10 grams of protein per serving and only 2 grams of sugar. The extra protein comes from a fabulous, natural plant source – ground up peas. Who knew that a little green pea could have that much protein, but they actually do! The best part is that you only taste the delicious almond and cashew milk and that’s it! The best part for those of us who are lactose and soy intolerant, this milk has no dairy or soy whatsoever, so your tummy will be happy!
With the new year, I’ve been drinking a lot more smoothies to get back in shape after over indulging during the holidays. Since I’ve also been increasing my strength training workouts, I’m often craving protein, so I’ll often reach for nuts or cheese, but with this new protein nut milk, I can reach for a healthy smoothie instead.
This blueberry pie smoothie is extremely filling, so don’t plan a huge breakfast when making this smoothie because you will be full. I’ve had it for breakfast after my morning workouts over the last few days and I am completely full until 1 pm, which is absolutely unheard of! I think it’s the combination of the filling oats and the pea protein in the nut milk.
Added bonus – the blueberries are high in antioxidants, so I feel great drinking this smoothie, knowing it’s good for me!
Blueberry Pie Protein Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Silk Protein & Nut Milk
- 1⁄2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1⁄4 cup whole oats
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a blender until well combined. Pour into a glass and drink right away. This is a thick smoothie, so you realistically won’t be able to drink it with a straw, but you can eat it with a spoon if you’d like. You can also top with fresh blueberries, granola and any fresh fruit toppings of your choice.
For a less thick smoothie, you can add more nut milk to thin it out.
Optional add-ins:
- Chia Seeds
If you are looking to reduce the sugar, you can use half of a banana, which will cut out 7 grams of sugar.
