Homemade Drop Biscuits Recipe
Biscuits are so easy to make, delicious to eat, and a great addition to any meal. Homemade biscuits are so much cheaper than the canned variety. They have simple ingredients you may already have on hand like flour, salt, baking powder, butter, and milk. I like to use buttermilk, but regular milk also works great.
I make biscuits to serve alongside soups, stews, and my kid’s favorite chicken pot pie. They are so easy to make and you can top with sweet or savory toppings based on your preferences. You can whip up a batch of biscuits and serve with sausage and gravy for an ultimate comfort breakfast, or smear with butter and jam for a treat with your afternoon tea.
Many recipes for biscuits call for unsalted butter, but I like my biscuits to have flavor and frankly, the flavor comes from the salt and the butter.
Ingredients in Buttermilk Drop Biscuits
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt (I use coarse salt)
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed (I use salted)
1 cup milk or buttermilk
How to Make Drop Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
In a food processor, combine flour, baking powder, salt and butter. Pulse until the mixture resembles a coarse meal.
Add the buttermilk and process until combined… about 15 pulses in the food processor. The mixture should be lumpy and thick. Do not overmix
Scoop the biscuits using tablespoon or 1/4 cup measuring spoon. I like to put 2 tablespoons of biscuit mix in each. Press down slightly on the biscuits in the pan so that they have smooth tops.
Brush with buttermilk and bake in the heated oven for 18 to 22 minutes until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
