6 Easy Leprechaun Trap Ideas for Kids

This Saint Patrick’s Day, you can start a new tradition with your kids by setting a Leprechaun Trap and trying to catch a Leprechaun!

See below for 6 Easy Leprechaun Trap Ideas for Kids.  This is a perfect family time activity, especially while the kids are at home from school this week.  You likely have all the materials you need on hand and this is the perfect opportunity to get creative and pass the time with the littles!

Now let me warn you, Leprechauns are super smart, very mischievous and catching one is tougher than you may think.

How to Catch a Leprechaun?

Leprechauns make their appearance on the evening before or the day of St. Patrick’s Day, therefore, you’ll need to get started on the trap right away!  Leprechauns are always looking for gold – so that should be the main attraction in the trap, but Leprechauns can also be lured into the trap with their favorite foods and anything shiny and sparkly.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when trapping a Leprechaun.  First, you need to have a box to contain them, second, you need to lure them with something sparkly (like gold or candy) and third you need to trap them, so you need to think through all three components while building your trap.

What Do Leprechauns Like to Eat?

According to my children, Leprechauns love erasers, Lucky Charms, and rainbow-colored foods like jelly beans, Skittles and Starburst candy.  They’ve also been known to be lured by Goldfish crackers.  Who knew?
