Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

Tender cinnamon coated apples, slightly sweetened topped with a heavenly oat crumble make this old-fashioned apple crisp a staple fall dessert.  Top with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra decadence.

Apples and fall go hand in hand – just like apple crisp a la mode!

Take advantage of the hot deals at Safeway on old fashioned oats, apples, and butter to make this apple crisp for dessert this week.  Honeycrisp apples make an excellent apple crisp, as do granny smith apples.

While this starts as a traditional old fashioned apple crisp recipe, I’ve added a touch of granola to the crumble topping, which gives the crisp an irresistible crunch and adds phenomenal flavor and texture to the crisp.

As with all the crisps I make, I use the Open Nature Honey Nut Granola which has almonds and delicious honey granola.  Of course, any maple or honey-flavored granola with or without nuts would work great.
