RedPlum Rebranding as RetailMeNot
Did you all catch the announcement at the top of your RedPlum inserts this past Sunday that the RedPlum insert is rebranding to RetailMeNot Everyday? This is BIG News! Not only will the RedPlum inserts change, the RedPlum website and coupon galleries will also be changing. We don’t know the full extent of the change to our RedPlum coupon gallery, but the coupon database will be updated starting with the March 25th inserts and all new RedPlum (RP) inserts will be branded as RMN. That may be a little confusing for everyone for a while, but we will have both RedPlum inserts and the new RMN inserts in the gallery until all the RedPlum inserts are phased out.
What precipitated this change?
Let’s have a quick history lesson on Valassis and the RedPlum brand.
Valassis was started in 1970 by George Valassis, he sold it in 1986 to an Australian company, Consolidated Press Holdings, who took it public in 1992. The RedPlum Brand was launched in 2008 as a consumer facing brand to tie together the new digital coupon world with the print world. Valassis was purchased by Harland Clarke Holdings, a payment and marketing services firm, in March 2013.
In April 2017, the holding company, Harland Clarke Holdings also purchased RetailMeNot. RetailMeNot is a digital coupon aggregator and digital marketing company. Last week they announced the rebrand of Valassis’ RedPlum consumer-facing print portfolio to RetailMeNot Everyday, including direct mail and the free-standing insert (FSI) coupon book, which reaches over 79 million households nationwide. Harlan Clarke also purchased MaxPoint in October 2017, which is a marketing technology company that generates hyperlocal intelligence to optimize brand and retail performance.
In a statement, Harland Clarke chief executive Victor Nichols said “RetailMeNot provides a new global digital channel to distribute our clients’ offers that perfectly complements Valassis’ current digital, mobile, mail and other print networks.”
The savings content found with RetailMeNot Everyday includes deals on consumer packaged goods, groceries, restaurants, and other local discounts, which complement RetailMeNot’s presence in retail with digital coupons, cash back offers, discount gift cards, and the Genie browser extension.
“This Valassis and RetailMeNot collaboration is an important milestone as we rebrand RedPlum, enabling our clients to extend their promotions across platforms and providing consumers with a single, powerful savings destination,” says Curtis Tingle, chief marketing officer of Valassis.
In the future, retailmenot.com/everyday will be your one-stop-shop for coupons, deals and tons of other ways to save. We will let you know when that happens, but for now you can still access the RedPlum digital coupons through the SuperSafeway coupon portal. We can expect additional changes and announcements as the companies merge to compete against NewsCorp and Quotient, the parent company of Coupons.com
