Saving Money With Safeway Rewards
Safeway Gas Rewards and Grocery Rewards are designed to help you SAVE on two of the most frequent and necessary expenses – groceries and gas! I don’t know about you, but here in Colorado we do a LOT of driving and with a family of five, we go through a LOT of groceries!
Being able to save money and get quality food and gas is extremely important.
How Do I Earn Rewards Points?
Safeway Reward Points are easy to earn by purchasing qualifying groceries, gift cards, and pharmacy items with a Safeway Club Card, and are easy to redeem at participating Safeway fuel centers.
For every 100 points earned by shopping at Safeway with a Safeway Club Card, shoppers get a 10 cent per gallon reward.
Shoppers can use up to $1 dollar per gallon in rewards on a single fill-up at a participating Safeway fuel center location, with a maximum of 25 gallons and a limit of one vehicle per transaction.
Reward Points can be earned by shopping at Safeway stores in the following manner:
- For every $1 spent on qualifying grocery purchases, customers receive one point.
- By purchasing qualifying gift cards, shoppers receive two points per $1 spent.
- For qualifying purchases made at the pharmacy, customers receive one point for every $1 of out-of-pocket cost, including co-pays.
Customers redeem their Rewards by simply swiping their Safeway Club Card, or by entering their phone number at the pump before fueling up.
Points are earned based on whole dollars spent on eligible purchases (for example, spend $5.25 and earn 5 points).
Additionally, points are redeemed in increments of 100: 100 points = 10¢ per gallon Gas Reward, 200 points = 20¢ per gallon Gas Reward, 500 points = 50¢ per gallon Gas Reward, 1000 points = $1 per gallon Gas Reward.
Point totals less than 100 expire at the end of the calendar month in which they were earned. Gas Rewards earned during each month can be used through the end of the following calendar month (for example, Gas Rewards earned in January expire at the end of February).
How do I know how many gas rewards points I have?
The Safeway Just for U app makes it easy to see how many gas rewards you have, how many are expiring, and how many points are needed until your next reward. The app also shows you a real-time map of Safeway fuel centers close to your location.
Does Safeway Offer Bonus Gas Rewards Points?
Safeway offers bonus fuel points like 2x gas rewards points and 4x gas rewards points as special promotions throughout the year when you purchase participating products or gift cards. You’ll find out all about the special bonus points here on SuperSafeway.
How Much Can You Really Save with Gas Rewards Points?
Here’s where the rubber meets the road. I like to save my gas rewards points until I save $1.00 per gallon on gas, so for me, that’s like 16 – 18 gas rewards available when I fill up. The last time I filled up at Safeway, I put 18.6 gallons of gas and paid just $1.23 per gallon or $22.86 to fill up a Chevy Tahoe.
I saved $18.60 ($1.00 per gallon) in the process. These are real savings that you can apply toward other expenses, or use to treat yourself to a special coffee drink or two!

If I have 15 Rewards and get the $1 off 25 gallons will the extra 5 rewards still show on my acct?
The Exxon in Ellicott City that offers rewards points is not recognizing the Safeway loyalty discounts. It appears to be a computer related issue according to the Exxon service manager. We attempted to use their system within the facility and had the same issue of not recognizing the points.
How can we resolve.
How does a family of two drivers combine their rewards earned when shopping at Safeway and buying gas at different times.
I recently went to a local Exxon gas station to use my Safeway gas reward points. I was eligible for $.40 off per gallon. Just after I started to fill up, the particular pump I was at stopped working. I maybe got 4 gallons before it stopped. The pump could not be restarted so I went to another pump and entered my loyalty number. It said I had no reward points. Is there any way to get back my $.40 per gallon savings since I wasn’t able to fill up?
Hi Sandra,
I’m sorry that happened! I don’t know if Safeway can reload the rewards since they were partially used – but your best bet is to call Safeway customer service to ask directly. Retail Store/Corporate – 877-723-3929
is there a way to redeem a portion of fuel points earned ?
have 10 fuel pts, want to use only 5 at that time,
Hi Daniel, You can use some rewards for gas discounts and some rewards for grocery discounts through the Just for U app. I don’t believe you can designate how many rewards you want to use at one time while getting gas.
Today May 18,2022 I went to 2 different chevron stations to get gas & use my Safeway rewards. The first gas station the machine said “ reward system unavailable “ . The clerk wasn’t sure why it they couldn’t get into the system. I left since I couldn’t use my rewards. Then in the afternoon I went to a different chevron in a different town. When I went inside to buy gas again the clerk was unable to pull up the rewards. This has never happened before. I’ve had just4u since it’s inception. Is Safeway severing ties with Chevron?
My points expire at the end of the month. I was shopping at Safeway more so I could earn more rewards for gas.
My Just4U had the 80cent gas reward offer (on $100 purchase), plus the 2x offer on produce (but not the other 2x ones), and a 30cent gas reward offer (on $90 purchase). All three stacked together on my big purchase of the week yesterday of just over $100 ($72 after coupons) and yielded a total of 1288 points, so I ended the month with 17 gas rewards! Enough to fill up tank in roommates car this month at maximum $1.00 per gallon off and still leave 7 gas rewards towards next month. One of the best deals at Safeway in quite a while!
That’s fantastic Arthur! We agree it’s a great offer!
