Homemade Black Bean Burgers
A perfect meatless Monday option, these homemade black bean burgers are easy to make using pantry ingredients you already have on hand. They are also delicious especially when topped with a sweet balsamic glaze.

Black Bean Burgers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups black beans
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup finely ground oats
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 scallions, finely sliced (about 1/4 cup)
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- Optional
- heirloom tomatoes
- red onion
- roasted red peppers
- avocado
- balsamic glaze

How To Make Homemade Black Bean Burgers
- Heat grill or grill pan to medium (375º-425º). Lightly oil grates with coconut oil.
- In a bowl, add black beans. Press beans against the bowl with a fork until most of the beans are slightly mashed. Beans should be thick and pasty.
- Add egg, oats, garlic, scallions, salt and pepper flakes. Mix together with a fork until fully combined.
- Let the mixture rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Divide and shape into 4 equal-size patties.
- Grill for about 4 minutes on each side.
- Remove from grill and assemble into burgers, first a slice of tomato, red onion, black bean burger, roasted red pepper, avocado, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
If you do not have balsamic glaze on hand, you can make your own by heating balsamic vinegar in a saucepan over medium heat for about 20 minutes until the vinegar reduces in half. The resulting thick liquid is the balsamic glaze. it makes a delicious topping for burgers, a Caprese salad and more!
