Safeway’s Signature Cafe Chicken Pot Pies

The folks in the Safeway deli are cooking up some delicious comfort food in the form of fresh chicken pot pies that you can heat and eat at home.  The new menu item under the Signature Cafe brand is a super flaky chicken pot pie made fresh daily in-store using the rotisserie chicken that is also prepared in-store daily.

The Signature Cafe chicken pot pie has a delicious creamy sauce and is full of tender, shredded, roasted chicken, diced potatoes, diced onions, carrots, and peas as well as savory herbs like thyme and parsley.

But let’s be real – a chicken pot pie is all about the crust and let me tell you this crust is amazing!  Incredibly flavorful, flaky, and just perfection!

It was my favorite part of the meal and luckily there is enough of it because it generously hangs over the edge of the pie dish.

Cooking a Signature Cafe Chicken Pot Pie

These new Signature Cafe chicken pot pies are assembled and baked every morning in the deli and then refrigerated, so you can heat and them at home.  They are served in a round metal pot pie pan, which is not intended for the microwave.

Cook in a toaster oven or conventional oven at 350 degrees to heat the chicken pot pie for about 20 minutes until it’s heated through.

The aroma of the chicken pot pies baking in your home oven will be your first clue at how amazing these pot pies taste!

Perfect for when you want a homemade comfort meal, but you don’t have the time to prepare on your own, or you don’t want the mess in the kitchen!

I picked up two chicken pot pies at my local store and honestly was able to feed myself and my 3 kids with the 2 pot pies, they are such a great size at 14 oz each!

I would serve with a side salad for an extra serving of vegetables.

Worst thing I have even eaten. Actually did not eat. Mushy, tasteless and nothing good about it at all. Sorry Safeway. It was like trying to eat paste.

  2. I would like to know the approximate nutritional value of one chicken pot pie. Like the sodium, carbohydrate, fat etc.

  3. Just bought and ate one because on sale today in Seattle. The crust and chichen are great. Did not see one pea nor one carrot. Onion and celery, yes. Something else, though, sour tasting like pickle. So tasted good, but not what I consider classic chicken pot pie. Glad I only bought one. I looked at ingredient list. That is not what I bought. What happened?

  4. My local store makes these differently now and not in a good way. Until last winter we had great to fantastic pot pies made there. Then they were not available due to staff shortage. In June they reappeared. The first one I got I noticed it was shredded chicken and different from the chunks of teaspoon sized pieces of past. But then I started to find bones. Almost one every three bites. And a lot of cartilage. I stopped eating that one and threw it out. Here a few weeks later I got many many less bones but more in one pie than from all the pies I have eaten in the last 60 years. Man we are bummed and not sure why they changed but I don’t know if I’ll try again later.

    1. Yikes! Thanks for your note Steven. We will be sure to pass that feedback onto Safeway. They use the rotisserie chicken to make the pot pies, so maybe someone needs help cutting the chicken off the bone!

  5. Too hot today to turn on the oven, so I just scooped the whole pie onto a paper plate and heated it in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes and it turned out perfect and was delicious!

  6. I live in the east bay of San Francisco. I have one local store and a second that is a bit away but they both have been out of these the last three times I was in the store. Six months ago they were not hard to get.
    Have they been discontinued?

  7. Our local deli man recommended these a couple months ago when they were first introduced. I’m a chef and have a few restaurants in The City (SF) so I was reluctant to try the pie. However, he persisted so I bought one the next time. I must say it is legit, downright tasty and surprisingly devoid of unhealthy ingredients. Highly recommended by my man and now by me.
