Safeway’s Signature Cafe Chicken Pot Pies

The folks in the Safeway deli are cooking up some delicious comfort food in the form of fresh chicken pot pies that you can heat and eat at home.  The new menu item under the Signature Cafe brand is a super flaky chicken pot pie made fresh daily in-store using the rotisserie chicken that is also prepared in-store daily.

The Signature Cafe chicken pot pie has a delicious creamy sauce and is full of tender, shredded, roasted chicken, diced potatoes, diced onions, carrots, and peas as well as savory herbs like thyme and parsley.

But let’s be real – a chicken pot pie is all about the crust and let me tell you this crust is amazing!  Incredibly flavorful, flaky, and just perfection!

It was my favorite part of the meal and luckily there is enough of it because it generously hangs over the edge of the pie dish.

Cooking a Signature Cafe Chicken Pot Pie

These new Signature Cafe chicken pot pies are assembled and baked every morning in the deli and then refrigerated, so you can heat and them at home.  They are served in a round metal pot pie pan, which is not intended for the microwave.

Cook in a toaster oven or conventional oven at 350 degrees to heat the chicken pot pie for about 20 minutes until it’s heated through.

The aroma of the chicken pot pies baking in your home oven will be your first clue at how amazing these pot pies taste!

Perfect for when you want a homemade comfort meal, but you don’t have the time to prepare on your own, or you don’t want the mess in the kitchen!

I picked up two chicken pot pies at my local store and honestly was able to feed myself and my 3 kids with the 2 pot pies, they are such a great size at 14 oz each!

I would serve with a side salad for an extra serving of vegetables.

  1. 720kcal gets you 3530 mg sodium … thats insane. Thats THREE times more sodium than taco bell nachos. TWICE the sodium of pepperoni pizza. And doesnt taste as good as either.

  2. This is my 2 cents…I bought a deli chicken pot pie at Pavilion’s today, and I just ate half of it. The crust is delicious and so is the roasted chicken and potatoes inside. However, there was almost ZERO carrots and peas inside. It was pretty much all shredded chicken and potatoes. I probably won’t buy it again, due to the lack of vegetables. I could actually do with LESS chicken and MORE vegetables. If extremely few carrots and peas are fine for you, if any, then maybe have a salad on the side. For me, I heated the pot pie for about 35-40 minutes at 350°, and then the temperature inside the pie was at 165°.

    1. Hi Lisa – I added the nutritional information to the post above. The pot pies are most definitely a treat.

      1. The current instructions for the turkey pot pie say to microwave it after “removing the lid”.

There is no lid. box, yes. Lid, no.

There is, however, a nice aluminum pan.

I hope people don’t microwave it.

  3. I just picked up one of these for dinner this evening. I can definitely tell you, 350°F for 15 minutes was NOT enough time. Right out of the oven, I stuck my finger in the middle and it was basically room temperature. 35-40 mins was adequate, enough to get the liquid contents to start seeping out in the hole in the crust, and a little bit of steam when I cut it open. Whoever came up with 15 minutes mustn’t like their food cooked all the way through.

    1. Hi there – Ovens can vary dramatically, so I will tell you the pot pies were bubbling and hot after 15 minutes in my pre-heated oven. I’ll go ahead an add a range to the cooking instructions.

      1. We just picked up 2 scrumptious looking turkey pot pies at Safeway. Unfortunately, they didn’t bother to take the guesswork out of how best to heat them. They look like they’ve already been baked. So, could you please let me know how long to cook the two of them and at what temperature. It would really be helpful to have that information on the labels.

Thanks…and please be safe out there!

      2. Hello,
We have tried all 3, personal favorite is the chicken. I love when it’s been a super long day to be able to stop by and grab one that was baked at the store… in fact that is my preference, due to the variance in cooking time at home. Can you point us in the direction of the nutrition label for these, please. Thank you! Please stay safe and Happy Holidays!

    2. I agree. I put it in a preheated oven for 20 min (prior to reading this) and was not close to hot.
I’ll let it warm for 40 min.

  4. the first one of these I had was delicious. So I bought another one which was NOT! That second one, instead of using the in-store prepared rotisserie chicken as advertised, used – LUNCH MEAT, which was actually kinda disgusting.

  5. It looks great, but without knowing what’s in it, I can’t buy one.

I’m in that 13% of the population who is mildly allergic to sulfites such as sodium metabisulfite, sodium sulfite, potassium sulfite, and potassium metabisulfite.

It would be very handy to have an ingredients list.

    1. Flip if over and look at the bottom. There’s a big long list of all the ingredients, but sadly no conventional oven instructions, hence what brought me here…
