Open Nature Non-Dairy Ice Cream – New at Safeway

Open Nature Non-Dairy Ice Cream

Ice cream lovers rejoice – there is a new Open Nature Non-Dairy ice cream line at Safeway.  This new ice cream is available in 7 flavors, each made with either almond milk or cashew milk.  I have always been a big fan of the Open Nature Gelatos and Sorbets, so this is a great addition to the line.  I picked up the Salted Caramel Cluster ice cream made with cashew milk to try and it was really good!   It has chunks of cashews, dark chocolate and swirls of salted caramel throughout.  I could tell there was no “cream” from the texture, but I could not taste the difference.  This is the perfect dessert option if you are unable to consume dairy, but you still want ice cream!

There has been a huge shake up in the ice cream category as of late.  Just walk down the frozen aisle at your local Safeway and you’ll see new ice cream brands with pints, and new frozen novelties that delight the senses.  Open Nature also has a new Scandal-less line of low fat ice creams that we will tell you all about tomorrow.

Here’s the thing about non-dairy and low fat ice creams – because they don’t actually have any cream, they don’t scoop in nice round scoops like traditional ice cream.   I know that’s totally a first world problem, so I guess the solution is to eat it straight from the container, all to myself!

  1. Safeway, I’m all for adding new lines. I get it that not everyone can or wants to eat dairy. However, for those of us who like real ice cream (especially your salted caramel butter pecan), by eliminating one category, you have also eliminated a part (maybe a large part) of your market. Many people, like me, who eat ice cream are health conscious, and look forward to a high-caloric scoop of deliciousness every once in a while. Your ice creams were by far the best I’ve tasted. So if they are still available in the Chicagoland area (Jewel-Osco stores), please let me know where. If not, I’m very disappointed, for your ice creams were real winners.

    1. Hi Brenda – The Butter Pecan Ice Cream is still available under the Signature SELECT line as is the Salted Caramel Ice Cream. If your store is missing these items, you can ask the frozen dept. manager to see if he/she can bring it back for you. Have you tried the new Signature RESERVE line? The Bourbon Maple Blonde is the best ice cream ever in my opinion! I’m with you – real ice cream is the best for an occasional indulgence! https://supersafeway.com/signature-reserve-ice-cream-new-at-safeway-pay-just-99-for-super-premium-ice-cream/

  2. Dont buy this i got cookie dough and cashew salted caramel. Both had hardly any chunks of anything and tasted like frozen milk. I feel like i threw away 7 bucks. Really disappointment. Btw the cookie dough bits were super tiny like a pebble??! What was the point.

  3. I bought the Coffee Caramel HORRIBLE taste and texture. Or lack there of perhaps. Im in kodiak alaska and I normally buy so delicious who lives up to there name and are SO DELICIOUS…… but we aren’t talking about them. One pt of so delicious is $7.59 here and open nature was $3.39. I figured let’s try the cheaper and see (definitely regretting being cheap at this point now that I’m icecream starved), how bad could it possibly be right? REALLY BAD! It’s fluffy not creamy like cooked whip cream but cold. The chocolate pieces are flavorless and greasy like cheap pickled over generic Halloween chocolates from the dollar store. Never did see any caramel or taste sweet salty caramel. No coffee resemblance AT ALL it tasted like cheap chocolate protein powder… muted…. dusty. I had about 4 spoons full because that’s all I could bear to get down. As I’ve been writing this im constantly having to swallow because my throat feels like I took a shot of straight vegetable oil YUM! I do not recommend this ice cream and will never buy this flavor or any other from this brand. Open Nature STEP UP YOUR GAME GUYS!

  4. Awful! The chocolate fudge brownie is nothing like the picture on the label. The picture on the label shows a huge chunk of brownie on it, and I was expected there to be decent sized chunks of brownie in the ice cream. I eat the whole thing, and only TINY little chocolate chunks. They aren’t even chewy like a brownie. I feel so ripped off. If you’re going to make a chocolate fudge BROWNIE ice cream, make it right! Ben and Jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie ice cream is amazing. Never buying one of your ice creams again.

  5. I usually buy So Delicious brand cashew milk frozen dessert. My husband bought the Open Nature Banilla Bean. Not even close. Not creamy, more like a popcicle. Potato starch and rice flour don’t belong here. I can taste the sunflower oil. It’s going back and I rarely return food.

  6. Absolutely HORRIBLE dairy free option. The coffee caramel has more sugar in it than regular ice-cream and it still tastes like dust! And like the comments above, only has 2-3 chunks of caramel and chocolate and tastes NOTHING like coffee at all. I was/ am beside myself that this product is even on the shelves.

  7. We couldn’t decide between cookie dough and salted cameral cluster – so we got both! The flavor is good on both, but there aren’t nearly as many dough chunks or clusters as in the photo as advertised! That part was a big disappointment.

  8. The cookie dough flavor I purchased had all of 6 tiny lumps of cookie dough in the container. I feel ripped off.

    1. Yep, 5 pea sized pieces of cookie dough at the very bottom of the container…4 choc chips total. What a rip off!

      1. Yeah I only had one piece of cookie dough and like 4 chocolate chips. Feel pretty ripped off… Especially since the picture on the front made it seem like there was more.

  9. I love your new vegan ice creams. The cashewmilk has a great mild nutty taste that would go great with chocolate. Even better make the Peanut Butter and Cookies with Cashewmilk.

Cashewbutter and chocolate crumble made with cashew milk– PLEASE, it would be so great. anyone who likes Reeces, but eats healthier now would love it!!!

Also monk fruit is a great sweetener that does not raise your glysemic index.
