In honor of Earth month, we are featuring a recipe for Power Green Smoothies with mango, pineapple and strawberries as well as apples and bananas. We’ve always been healthy eaters in our family, but when my husband turned 40, he started a smoothie kick where he decided we were going to drink power green smoothies every day. He read a lot of health and diet books and they all said that greens like kale, spinach and chard are super foods that you should incorporate into your diet to boost immunity and maintain overall good health. Not only that, but drinking a green smoothie every day helps you get your daily serving of fruits and vegetables.

Power Green Smoothies Recipe:
- 2 1/2 cups of organic kale, spinach, chard blend
- 1 1/2 cups of frozen mango, strawberry and pineapple blend
- 1 banana
- 1 green apple
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth for a minute or two. Pour into a glass and enjoy. We give our kids shot glasses of power green smoothies every morning with their breakfast and every evening with dinner. I can definitely say we feel great and have a lot of energy as a result of these daily smoothies!
The consistency with this recipe is definitely a thicker smoothie, but you can add more water if you like it to be more watery.
We grow kale and spinach in our garden every summer that goes into our smoothies, but when we don’t have fresh kale or spinach, I always use organic kale, spinach, and chard blends like the Power Greens Blend from Earthbound Farm. While the chard can be a little bitter, it is really good for you, so you just have to add a little extra fruit to compensate for the bitterness in your smoothie.
