Safeway Rewards Program
Safeway has launched a new Grocery Rewards program through its Safeway for U platform.
The new rewards program allows you to earn reward points to use towards free groceries and cash discounts.
You can still use the rewards points for savings on gas, but if you do not have a Safeway fuel center nearby, then the grocery rewards program will be a better option for you to shop and save at Safeway.
Similar to the gas rewards program, for every 100 points you earn, you get 1 Grocery Reward that can be redeemed for free groceries or cash off offers.
$1 = 1 point, so for every $100, you get 100 points, which = 1 Grocery Reward.
There are also times when Safeway has 2x and 4x rewards points promotions and offers, so it’s easy for the points to accumulate quickly!
Be sure to check your Safeway for U account under Rewards on the website or Member in the app for your personal rewards.
How does Safeway Rewards Program Work?
How to Use Safeway Rewards
If you are already a Safeway for U user, you don’t have to do anything but view your rewards.
- Sign in to your account on the Safeway app or through the Safeway website.
- Go to the Rewards icon on the website, or view your rewards through the Member tab in the app to see how many points you have and how many rewards you have available.
- View the list of rewards available and add the reward offer(s) to your account. Once added, a reward cannot be removed.
- Pick up your item in-store and enter your phone number at checkout so that your reward comes off the transaction.
Rewards expire at the end of each month, so be sure to use the reward points in the given month before they expire.
The app and website tell you how many points you have, the number of rewards, and how many points are needed until your next reward.

The more points you earn, the greater the value of the grocery rewards. For example, if you have 7 rewards, you can get $10 off your next purchase.

If you prefer to continue using your points for Safeway gas rewards, you can do that too – it’s your choice how you want to earn and save!

I accidentally clipped grocery rewards tha I don’t want to use rewards for, can I uncip them?
Hi Bill, unfortunately, you cannot unclip a reward once clipped.
This happened to me also, accidentally hit wrong item in my rewards. I can’t believe you can’t unclip it . Now just stuck with a product I don’t want.

Alcohol, gift cards, stamps, lottery tickets and financial instruments are excluded from grocery reward eligible purchases. If you click on the offer image in the app, you can see the full terms and conditions which shows the exclusions.
If I purchase food and non food items in a single transaction can I use food stamps for all of the food items and just for you Rewards only on the non-food items or does it come off of the total amount first
Hi – I will confirm with Safeway, but my understanding is that the rewards come off the total amount first.
I clipped my grocery reward 10$ and 4$ worth but when i checkout the grocery reward doesn’t appear. I bought clorox and cetaphil lotion.
Can just for you Rewards be used for non-food items only in a single transaction so I can be sure that only my my food stamps are used for the food items
Can the rewards be given to recognized Charities? i.e. Can a customer specify a Charity to get his rewards?
Hi Dale – In the latest iteration of the rewards program, I have noticed that rewards can be given to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado. Safeway has an active fundraising campaign with the hospital at the moment. But No, you cannot specify your own charity to donate your rewards at this time.
Where can I find a complete list of program rules? How many rewards can I get per month? I have more than $100 in rewards and how can I use them in just one moth? Is it allowed to combine all rewards? Otherwise it’s just fraud.
Yes, you can combine rewards. There is no limit to how many rewards you can earn or use, but the rewards must be loaded and used every 30 days, otherwise, they expire.
I missplaced my reward card how can i get a replacement,.. I do not have an i phone….

Thanks for the clear and detailed explanation of the new program. The description in the paper advertisement today made it appear this program was tied to the smartphone app (which i cannot use since I don’t have a smartphone), but as you described it can be accessed easily through the safeway website just4U page from a desktop computer as well.
