Scallops are a perfect gift from the sea – they take on the flavors of how they are prepared. Whether in a butter wine sauce, a citrus sauce, or a spicy poblano pepper sauce – they are a product of their pairings.
Safeway carries several varieties of scallops. If you want whole scallops Safeway offers Open Nature North Atlantic Scallops, which are wild-caught in the U.S. Additionally, Safeway carries bay scallops at the seafood counter for $19.99/lb.
The most economical scallop option at Safeway is the jumbo sea scallop pieces. They are sea scallop pieces that are perfectly delicious and can be used in scallop pasta recipes, risotto, over a salad, pan-seared, or any way you like to enjoy scallops. The pan-seared scallops with sweet corn and poblanos recipe I made last summer is really AMAZING using the scallop pieces.
I’m going to test two new recipes using the scallop pieces this weekend – the first will have brown butter, kale, white beans, and parmesan and the second is a mushroom scallop risotto.
