Cherry season is in full swing.  Make a healthy and delicious cherry vanilla smoothie using Northwest sweet cherries on sale at Safeway.  The cherries are perfectly sweetened so they add a fabulous flavor to any smoothie, even if it’s full of greens!

Cherries are not only delicious, they are packed with nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants with powerful health benefits.   Cherries are a good source of vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and other nutrients your body needs to function optimally.

Cherries are also high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which may reduce chronic disease risk and promote overall health.

Cherries are a perfect addition to smoothies because they are naturally sweet.  You can add some protein to your smoothie by adding a scoop of vanilla protein powder, or you could add a cup of high protein vanilla Greek yogurt or vanilla quark.

How to Make a Cherry Vanilla Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Open Nature® non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and stems removed
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries (OR 3/4 cup frozen whole strawberries)
  • 3/4 cup almond milk (or coconut, oat, or regular milk)
  • 1/2 cup kale or spinach
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)

Add all ingredients into a blender and pulse until smooth.

Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.
