Open Nature Cauliflower Crust Pizza Review

There is a new gluten-free frozen pizza option available at Safeway with its new Open Nature Cauliflower Crust Pizza.   Try the pizza for just $3.99 with a new Just for U Digital Coupon through September 29th.

Cauliflower crust pizzas are popular right now because cauliflower is a low carb alternative to grains, and it’s a nutritional superfood!  Cauliflower is a cruciferous vegetable like broccoli and cabbage that is low in calories and high in fiber and vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients.

It’s also known to help prevent some cancers by neutralizing damaging toxins when consumed frequently.

The new Open Nature Cauliflower Crust Pizza uses real cauliflower and rice flour in the crust and it looks and tastes like traditional pizza. I purchased the Roasted Vegetable Cauliflower Crust Pizza and was blown away at the light, thin and crispy crust.

I’ve made cauliflower crust pizza on my own and it can be more chewy than crispy, but because of the addition of rice flour in this crust, you get a really great texture and crispy crust.  The sauce was good, the cheese was flavorful and the veggies were roasted to perfection.

I would’ve liked even more veggies on my pizza, but other than that – it’s a delicious pizza with a crispy crust and you would never know it’s gluten-free.

  1. Just opened my first Open Nature Cauluflower Crust pizza with “roasted vegetables”. Unbelievable…3 tiny pieces of brocolli stems and 3 tiny pieces of red pepper. I will never waste my money on this brand again.

  2. I tried one of your pizzas and loved it. Went to buy more today (which I did) and noticed that the larger 14 & 15 ounce options were LESS expensive than the smaller 10 ounce products. Why is this? What is the difference that makes the smaller ones MORE expensive? [I am not talking about more expensive per ounce. This is normal for a smaller size to be more expensive per ounce. I am saying the smaller product total purchase price was MORE than the purchase price of the larger product.]

    1. Hi Harvey – The Cauliflower Crust pizzas are smaller than the traditional Open Nature pizzas and they are more expensive because they are made with the cauliflower crust, whereas the traditional pizzas are made with a flour crust. Hope this helps.

  3. I discovered the Open Nature pizza section at my Jewel in the Chicago NW suburbs last winter. The Mediterranean pizza had me eating frozen pizza, which I’ve never really done. I began eating it regularly, as a quick dinner, throwing my gluten- free adherence to the wind. I loved it so much I was willing to suffer the inflammation pain for it, and often ate the whole thing by myself. I am highly, deeply disappointed that you discontinued it. The gluten-free cauliflower crusts are the thing, but so are alternative toppings and something other than red tomato pizza sauce. PLEASE, TRY TO MAKE THE MEDITERRANEAN PIZZA, WITH ALL THE SAME TOPPING, IT WAS SO GREAT TO HAVE SOMETHING WITHOUT THE TOMATO SAUCE. IF YOU HAVE TO USE THE CAULIFLOWER CRUST, ILL TAKE IT. I JUST ATE THE ROASTED VEGATABLE CAULIFLOWER GLUTEN FREE CRUST.. It was just okay, but I wouldn’t eat it again. I could get used to the texture and smell of the crust, but the pizza as a whole, was meh. Thank you for having a place for and caring about comments and feedback.

  4. Why does it have sugar in it? Why add sugar to everything? It makes no sense that the carbs in these cauliflower pizzas are so high when they only have low carb ingredients. Companies have to start taking responsibility and stop adding sugar!

  5. What a joke! Litterally was not one broccoli floret on the entire pizza!! No kidding!! How disappointing!! Talk about deceive advertising!!!

  6. I tried the three cheese cauliflower crust pizza and liked it quite a bit. Nice thin crunchy crust (baked directly on rack) and good flavor that had a distinct but not overwhelming cauliflower character. (People that simply dislike cauliflower altogether are probably not going to won over with any cauliflower crust). The weak link here is the tomato sauce which has the overcooked flavor typical of frozen pizza. Still, I thought this was one of the better frozen pizzas I’ve tried overall, and plan to buy it again.

I purchased Open Nature Italian Sausage & Uncured Pepperoni Pizza from Safeway, Canyon Road, Puyallup,WA. I thought I had stepped back in time when the first frozen pizza was available for purchase. It was like eating cardboard as was this Pizza. I had to read the instructions for temperature as well as cooking time and was shocked it was so long – the crust and pizza itself was too thin to cook that long – the sauce veneered itself – SHAME ON THIS PRODUCT – IT IS A JOKE!

I’m sorry you had a bad experience – but just to be clear, your review is NOT about the Open Nature Cauliflower Crust Pizza, rather the traditional Open Nature Thin Crust Pizza. Safeway offers a 100% quality and satisfaction guarantee on their Open Nature products, so you can take it back for a refund. It says so on the packaging. If you try the Open Nature Cauliflower Crust pizza, I guarantee you will not have the same experience with a cardboard crust.

  8. I loved this pizza!! Being Diabetic, the Caulflower Crust is a plus for me and the flavors of the Veggies were exceptional!
I thought there was a hint of either Red Peppers or Pimento added that really gave this topping flavor an added touch, that I have not found on any other Pizzas. Great work, Safeway! Only bad comment….the size. It was much smaller than other Pizzas.
