NEW Open Nature Savory Skillets

NEW at Safeway you’ll find Open Nature Savory Skillets. All-natural entrees for two in 11 globally-inspired gourmet flavors.

There are days when you need to get dinner on the table in minutes and you don’t have time to prep, cook, and clean, that’s where NEW Open Nature Savory Skillets come in handy!

Open Nature Savory Skillet Meals are ready in minutes using just one pan. While they are designed to feed two people, realistically I think they are for 1 and a half, or 2 kids, unless served with a substantial side.

Featuring on-trend flavors, restaurant-quality presentation, and taste, the convenient meals use only high-quality natural ingredients that are free from antibiotics and artificial ingredients, flavors, or colors.

That’s called a win, win, win in my book!

“Our culinary experts have created easy and delicious meal solutions that make all dinner time – from prep to the meal, to cleanup – more enjoyable for everyone,” said Chad Coester, Senior Vice President of Own Brands. “We know that this year especially, busy families are craving more variety at dinner time, and our savory skillet solutions deliver.  While some of the staple flavors will always be available, we will continue to innovate and introduce new meals to help keep dinner new and fresh.”

The delicious flavor, nutritional value, and freshness are locked in with a nitro flash-freezing technology called enrobing.  You’ll see the term on the bag and wonder what that means.

As the name implies, the sauce is enrobed around the ingredients and dispenses as it cooks. No defrosting is needed, and there is no need to add water, so these meals can go straight from the freezer to the dinner table in as little as ten minutes.

Review of Open Nature Skillet Meals

I’m not one who normally buys prepared frozen meals, other than pizza – but I was impressed with the list of clean ingredients in each package and the ease of preparation before buying.  The flavor combinations are unique and fit for foodies.  If you are watching your sodium, as with all prepared frozen foods, be sure to watch the portions.

My family and I tried the brisket fried rice and it was delicious – it has bits of uncured bacon and smoky beef brisket enrobed in a slightly spicy tomato sauce paired with rice and veggies. The first flavor you get is the smoky bacon, then the tender beef brisket in the slightly spicy chipotle tomato sauce.

It was ready in 7 minutes and the kiddos devoured it.

We also tried the lobster tortellini and oh my goodness, it was heavenly.  The kids ate the tortellini straight from the skillet before it even hit the plates – with everyone fighting over the last few pieces.

I cooked the tortellini for 8 minutes over medium heat and the sauce had caramelized onto each tortellini, which completely made the dish!  If you want it saucier, cook at a lower temp for the creamy sauce.

This will be on repeat at my house on busy nights!

Soft pillowy tortellini is stuffed with lobster and cheese then topped with a delicious pink tarragon sauce…  can you say gourmet meal right there?  SO GOOD!  Serve with a steamed veggie or a simple salad to get dinner on the table in under 10 minutes.

Iʻve been trying to find a shrimp scampi dish to please my 93 year old mom . She loved the shrimp scampi. After 8minutes in the pan, i took out the pasta and steamed it in my instapot so it would soften for her, and it did. i added spaghetti on the side because my mom wanted more pasta. next time, my mom said to add a few capers, which i will!

Am willing to try some other ones now.

  2. Savory Skillets – Shrimp Scampi with Pasta
Would have been excellent, but without any mention anywhere on the package, it turned out to be very spicy hot.
Some of us would love to be able to eat spicy but just can’t for various reasons.
Any indication on the packaging wold have been helpful.
Maybe try the same recipe WithOut the HEAT…
    Thanks for asking,
    Rich

  3. OMG! That was delicious! I had the Mexican Pulled Porkbwith pineapple. I put it on street tacos with green onion and sour cream. Wow! My husband had the Shrimp Scampi and Pasta. He ate it all. He’s going to be very envious when I eat my leftovers and he doesn’t have any.

  4. I tried the lobster tortellini it was good, I had some fresh spinach so I also sautéed it and added it to mines! I just think they are just a little pricey but it is perfect portions if you live alone and work insane hours, and need something good and healthy to prepare.

I got home tossed it in a pan on low took a shower and dinner was served!

    1. Awesome!! Thanks for leaving your comment. Glad you enjoyed it. We think the Lobster ravioli is the best! Love the addition of spinach!

  5. The three flavors we tried, we LOVED. So easy, Less than 10 minutes. We liked the 4 cheese macaroni was a side with ham. The seafood sausage jambalaya was so flavorful. The southwest style brisket was also very good. I don’t like cilantro but I really didn’t taste any.

  6. We tried the lobster tortellini. Absolutely disgusting…will never by a product made by this company. Soooo gross👎👎

  7. I tried the Prime Rib beef roast with gravy from Safeway. It only had about three thin slices of beef and lots of gravy. I had to add vegatables. The price is too high for what you receive. Eight dollars and ninety-nine cents for gravy is expensive. Don’t waste your money.

    1. Yes. I tried it too because it was on special for$5.99. Remember that ol saying”two can live a good as one person?” That is so true, especially if one does not eat! The meat flew thru that savory skillet and if u are hungry, fuggetaboutit!

  8. I really wanted to try the southwest brisket fried rice but saw there is cilantro, many many people cannot eat cilantro just because it is Mexican or southwestern doesn’t mean it had to have cilantro

We tried the Prime Rib Roast with Mushroom Gravy and it was delicious! I decided to try a few more varieties, Chinese Style Beef with Broccoli being one of them. When I opened and put in the pan…there was only Broccoli!! We are now trying the Chicken Tikka Masala which does have chicken. Hoping Safeway will replace the “Broccoli only meal. We put it back in bag and back in the freezer. (The broccoli looked great…just needed some beef and Oyster Sauce.)
