NEW Open Nature Savory Skillets

NEW at Safeway you’ll find Open Nature Savory Skillets. All-natural entrees for two in 11 globally-inspired gourmet flavors.

There are days when you need to get dinner on the table in minutes and you don’t have time to prep, cook, and clean, that’s where NEW Open Nature Savory Skillets come in handy!

Open Nature Savory Skillet Meals are ready in minutes using just one pan. While they are designed to feed two people, realistically I think they are for 1 and a half, or 2 kids, unless served with a substantial side.

Featuring on-trend flavors, restaurant-quality presentation, and taste, the convenient meals use only high-quality natural ingredients that are free from antibiotics and artificial ingredients, flavors, or colors.

That’s called a win, win, win in my book!

“Our culinary experts have created easy and delicious meal solutions that make all dinner time – from prep to the meal, to cleanup – more enjoyable for everyone,” said Chad Coester, Senior Vice President of Own Brands. “We know that this year especially, busy families are craving more variety at dinner time, and our savory skillet solutions deliver.  While some of the staple flavors will always be available, we will continue to innovate and introduce new meals to help keep dinner new and fresh.”

The delicious flavor, nutritional value, and freshness are locked in with a nitro flash-freezing technology called enrobing.  You’ll see the term on the bag and wonder what that means.

As the name implies, the sauce is enrobed around the ingredients and dispenses as it cooks. No defrosting is needed, and there is no need to add water, so these meals can go straight from the freezer to the dinner table in as little as ten minutes.

Review of Open Nature Skillet Meals

I’m not one who normally buys prepared frozen meals, other than pizza – but I was impressed with the list of clean ingredients in each package and the ease of preparation before buying.  The flavor combinations are unique and fit for foodies.  If you are watching your sodium, as with all prepared frozen foods, be sure to watch the portions.

My family and I tried the brisket fried rice and it was delicious – it has bits of uncured bacon and smoky beef brisket enrobed in a slightly spicy tomato sauce paired with rice and veggies. The first flavor you get is the smoky bacon, then the tender beef brisket in the slightly spicy chipotle tomato sauce.

It was ready in 7 minutes and the kiddos devoured it.

We also tried the lobster tortellini and oh my goodness, it was heavenly.  The kids ate the tortellini straight from the skillet before it even hit the plates – with everyone fighting over the last few pieces.

I cooked the tortellini for 8 minutes over medium heat and the sauce had caramelized onto each tortellini, which completely made the dish!  If you want it saucier, cook at a lower temp for the creamy sauce.

This will be on repeat at my house on busy nights!

Soft pillowy tortellini is stuffed with lobster and cheese then topped with a delicious pink tarragon sauce…  can you say gourmet meal right there?  SO GOOD!  Serve with a steamed veggie or a simple salad to get dinner on the table in under 10 minutes.

    1. My 99-year-old neighbour got hooked on these dinners, and POOF – they were gone from our local Safeway. what happened?

  1. Can’t find Savory Skillets anywhere anymore. Are they still around. Especially the prime rib, lots of meat and gravy. Very good.

  2. Have loved these for years, even before the frozen version. But tonight I got a “beef” stew with loads of tiny bones, and am pretty sure it also tasted like rabbit.

They are apparently not liable for any discrepancies between the label and actual ingredients, which… ew. Not sure I can eat what is left in my freezer, or buy them again.

  3. After examining the prepared meal market (home chef, blue apron, martha Stewart, etc), I have decided these are a pretty good buy. I tried the shrimp, a friend tried the stew. Very easy and quick to prepare with very little clean-up – just the skillet. And very little packaging so eco friendly. And the ones we had were good. My original reaction was expensive. I am used to cooking from scratch though and after examining the field, these are competitive and there’s no shipping cost. And there are sales, thank you. So overall, I’d recommend these pretty highly.

  4. I love your meals, for older seniors its two meals a package. I usually don’t complain, yet I found the Lobster deceiving. Little flavor and NO hint of lobster.
I will still purchase your product, I have recommended it to my friends and will await new products.
    Thanks for reading.

  5. Hello there. I love the Mexican pulled pork with pineapple but can’t seem to get it anymore at my Safeway, did they stop making it??? It’s our favorite.

Really, I could have saved by packaging to return the Prime Rib meal? It was tough meat and little gravy. Not good. I also bought the Chinese Style Beef but afraid to use it due to the Prime Rib Roast beef. Can I bring back the one I have not opened for a refund or credit? They are not cheap!

  7. I would like to try the Savory Skillets. The problem is that most people could have a Stroke because of so much Sodium. I wish your food is healthy and not
    loaded with salt.

  8. When we first tried these Savory Skillets meals, I tried Chicken Tikka Masala. I loved it. I was able to purchase it a couple of times, but now it’s no longer in stock. I love the Beef with Broccoli, too, and can no longer find it. How can we purchase all of the varieties?

I agree with one of the other comments. It would be good to mention that the dishes are spicy / hot. The brisket and pork meals were both really spicy to me. I love spice, but these were too hot. Maybe something can be included where we choose how much spice we want.
