Vanilla Chai Pear Smoothie
Mix up your protein smoothie routine with this fresh pear smoothie with vanilla and chai spices as the base of the smoothie. Naturally sweetened with pears and made with fresh ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and vanilla this vegan smoothie recipe is a delicious way to get anti-inflammatory, and high fiber foods into your diet.
We love pears – the kids eat them fresh, I bake them into cakes, crisps and oatmeal and now I’ve used them in smoothies too! Pears not only taste amazing, but they are also healthy for you too!
Health Benefits of Pears
Pears are especially rich in folate, vitamin C, copper, and potassium. They’re also a good source of polyphenol antioxidants.
Pears are a rich source of flavonoids, which are antioxidants that may help reduce inflammation and protect against certain diseases.
Pears are high in dietary fiber, including prebiotics, which promote bowel regularity, constipation relief, and overall digestive health. To get the most fiber from your pear, eat it with the skin on.
Fresh Ginger–Ginger has a group of compounds called gingerols, which inhibit the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Ginger also contains an enzyme, zingibain, which has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body.
Chai spices – are made up of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, clove, and ginger. In this recipe, we are not using clove, allspice, and nutmeg, although you could if you really wanted, we are only using three of the chair spice flavors – fresh ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cardamom. The flavor combo is amazing.
Ingredients in Vanilla Chai Pear Smoothie
- 1 D’Anjou pear, seeded and sliced (NOT peeled)
- 1 cup Open Nature unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ice
How to Make a Pear Smoothie
If you want to add spinach or kale to make it a green smoothie, add 1/2 cup. You won’t taste it as the pear and chai spices carry the flavor of the smoothie.
For the vanilla protein powder, I use the Open Nature Plant-Based Vanilla Protein powder available exclusively at Safeway and Albertsons stores. It’s all-natural and has 11 grams of protein in one scoop. Another plant-based protein powder I recommend is the Orgain vanilla protein powder.
How to Make a Pear Smoothie
Pour the almond milk into a blender. Add the protein powder, sliced pears, cinnamon, cardamom, fresh ginger, vanilla extract, and ice to the blender. Blend for 1 minute until smooth.
If you want a thicker smoothie, you can add a banana, but the texture of this pear smoothie is slightly grainy, slightly thick, and totally delicious!

- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ice
Instructions
- Pour the almond milk into a blender. Add the protein powder, sliced pears, cinnamon, cardamom, fresh ginger, vanilla extract and ice to the blender. Blend for 1 minute until smooth.
