How to Make a Healthy Strawberry Smoothie?

I’ve been reading a fabulous nutrition and wellness book, Body Love, by Kelly LeVeque and she talks about boosting your smoothies with four key ingredients – protein, fat, fiber, and greens.   Kelly is a certified holistic nutritionist, wellness expert, and celebrity health coach, so I trust her advice!

In her book, she recommends a smoothie for breakfast every morning.  It’s a good way to jump-start the day with fiber, nutrients, and liquids to keep you hydrated and energized throughout the day.   By incorporating a healthy fat, like coconut cream or nut butter in your smoothie – you stay full longer.

Let’s look at the nutritional value of the ingredients we are using.

Strawberries – are a good source of vitamin C and manganese and also contain decent amounts of folate (vitamin B9) and potassium. Strawberries are very rich in antioxidants and plant compounds, which may have benefits for heart health and blood sugar control.

Chia Seeds – One of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet – full of fiber, healthy omega 3 fats, protein and antioxidants.

Coconut Cream – a thicker form of coconut milk, coconut cream adds creaminess and plant-based fat to the smoothie, which helps keep you full longer and helps your body absorb important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Unsweetened Nut Milk  – low in calories, sugar and carbs, than cow’s milk, almond milk is higher in calcium than cow’s milk and is lactose free, which makes it perfect for anyone sensitive to dairy.

Plant-Based Protein Powder – I use the Orgain plant-based protein powder.  It’s made with pea protein and has extra superfoods.  The Open Nature plant-based protein powder is another great option.
