Philly Cheesesteak

Thinly sliced beef is seasoned and perfectly pan-seared with a mixture of peppers and onions, topped with melty provolone cheese in this Philly Cheesesteak sandwich recipe.

We are using the NEW Signature SELECT Beef Shaved Steak in this recipe, available exclusively at Safeway and Albertsons affiliate stores.   The shaved beef is USDA Choice grade and contains no fillers or by-products.    It’s perfect for fajitas, stir fry, salads, sandwiches, wraps, pizza, calzones, and more!

Philly Cheesesteaks originated in Philadelphia (hence the name) and in some areas are made with Cheese Wiz, a processed cheese sauce, and in other areas are made with provolone cheese.  You can use any cheese you’d like but provolone and mozzarella melt the best for this as they are not overly greasy.

The meal is easy to assemble and comes together in under 20 minutes, making it a perfect option for a weeknight meal the whole family will love.  My kids love steak, so it’s only natural that they would LOVE cheesesteak sandwiches as well!

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches

Preheat the oven to 350° F.

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large non-stick skillet and add the sliced peppers and onions to the pan.   Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of garlic powder.  Cook for 5-6 minutes until soft and tender.  Remove the veggies from the skillet and set them aside.

Slice the rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet.  Place 2 slices of Provolone cheese on each bun and cook in the oven for 5-6 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey and the buns are toasted.

Cook the shaved beef steak in 2 batches over medium-high heat so that it can caramelize and get crispy.

Add the 2nd tablespoon of olive oil to the pan as needed for cooking the 2nd batch of beef.  Once all the beef is cooked, add the remaining beef, peppers and onions and season with steak seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper.  Stir to combine.
