The Best Tuna Salad Recipe – Healthy, Low Carb and Easy
Tuna salad is a light, fresh and delicious meal option when you want a high-protein, low-carb meal for lunch. You can prep this ahead of time and serve over a bed of lettuce, on a sandwich, with crackers or with parmesan crisps.
Tuna salad is on the menu weekly at my house. This is truly the only thing that I meal prep every Sunday so that we have a batch of tuna salad ready for lunches throughout the week. I also chop up several heads of romaine lettuce and some crunchy veggies to have on the ready for daily lunches and snacks.
I make several tuna salad recipes – but this one is a classic that we all enjoy.
It stores amazing well for days in a food storage container in the fridge and the celery and onions stay crunchy. My kids love tuna salad sandwiches on a croissant. The buttery texture of the croissant with the creamy, salty tuna salad is a perfect combination! You can pick up freshly baked croissants in the Safeway bakery.

How to Make Tuna Salad
Tuna salad is definitely one of the easiest salads to make. A few simple ingredients and some chopping time and you’ll have a delicious meal, perfect for lunches every week.
Adding parsley makes this tuna salad recipe fresh – it’s the ultimate comfort food on a hot summer day paired with some sweet grapes and crunchy kettle chips!
- 2 5-ounce cans of tuna (I use Albacore)
- 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- 1 stalk of celery diced
- 2 tablespoons red onion diced
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, diced
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- salt and pepper to taste
Drain the liquid from the tuna cans. In a medium bowl, combine the tuna, mayo, Dijon, diced celery, diced red onion, parsley, and black pepper.
Stir all the ingredients until combined. Taste for salt and add if needed. Typically it’s not necessary as tuna is salty on its own.
Enjoy the tuna salad as a sandwich, with crackers, over a bed of crunchy romaine as a salad.
If you want a creamier texture – you can always add more mayo. I’m not a huge mayo fan, so I use the bare minimum to add moisture and bind the salad together.
