Ultimate Breakfast Charcuterie Board

Treat mom to a Mother’s Day Breakfast Charcuterie Board that the kids can assemble using fresh-cut fruit and freshly baked goods from Safeway.  Breakfast and Brunch Boards are all the rage right now and it’s no wonder – they offer a great variety, presented on one board, making for fun celebrations where the centerpiece is the food.

For under $100 you can have breakfast for the family AND treat mom to beautiful flowers in a gorgeous vase from the Safeway floral department.

Ingredients for a Breakfast Charcuterie Board

For my brunch/breakfast charcuterie board, I kept it simple with a variety of baked goods, hard-boiled eggs and fruit so there wasn’t much actual cooking other than browning the sausages and toasting the waffles.

Belgian Waffles – no need to get out the waffle maker, you can buy Signature SELECT Frozen Belgian Waffles at Safeway – they are available in original and mixed berry flavors.  Pop them in the toaster to heat and slice them in half for the board.  Serve with Signature SELECT Pure Maple Syrup on the side for dipping.

Sausage/Bacon – I went with the Signature SELECT Maple Sausage to complement the waffles and maple syrup on the board.  You could also add bacon or turkey bacon for extra variety.

Yogurt Parfaits – Yogurt, granola, and berry parfaits add variety, color, texture, as well as protein to the brunch board.  I used Open Nature Vanilla Greek Yogurt topped with Open Nature Strawberry Vanilla Granola and fresh berries.  You can buy the footed parfait glasses at Target and I promise they will get a lot of use in your home.

Hard-boiled eggs add protein and great color.   Rather than boil and peel my own eggs, I picked up the O Organics hard-boiled eggs from the refrigerated dairy section at Safeway to make it super easy.  Slice, season with salt and pepper, and add to the board.

Fresh fruit is a must for a breakfast charcuterie board. Berries pair beautifully with waffles and pineapple, cantaloupe, oranges, and kiwi adding a pop of color and great flavors to the board.  Pick up all the fresh-cut fruit at Safeway in the produce department and save time and energy cutting it all yourself.

Baked Goods – treat your guests/family to freshly baked cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, and madeleines from the Safeway bakery.

Jam/Preserves – I served the board with the Signature SELECT Strawberry jam which can be used as a topping for the waffles, the muffins, and the madeleines.  You can also serve a side of softened butter if you wish.

The Best Board for Charcuterie

The best board for breakfast charcuterie is one you have on hand.  You can use a wooden cutting board, a slate board, a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or a round wooden board.

The key to choosing a board is to make sure everything fits and there is some symmetry in the placement.

Even if you have more food than your board can fit, you can place plates and bowls around the board to extend the board as I did with the chocolate-covered almonds, strawberry pretzels, and the madeleines.

How to Assemble an Easy Breakfast/Brunch Charcuterie Board

The key to assembling a breakfast charcuterie board is to have all your ingredients prepped/cooked in front of you for quick placement.

Cook the sausages, toast the waffles, slice, and season the eggs.

Slice the kiwi and oranges and assemble the yogurt parfaits.  It’s important to have small serving bowls available for overflow or for ingredients that will make a mess on the board.

Beautiful boards have a bit of symmetry to them rather than just a smorgasbord of ingredients thrown together.

I started with the waffles on opposite sides of the board, added the sausages, then the parfaits and the maple syrup, the hard-boiled eggs, and then filled in the board with the fruit, muffins, and cinnamon rolls.
