Slenderizing Mango Green Tea Smoothie

The holidays are fast approaching, so it’s a perfect time to give yourself a jolt of energy with this refreshing mango green tea smoothie.  Overindulgence happens during the holidays, but you can detoxify your body and maintain a healthy weight by incorporating a green tea smoothie in your daily meal or snack rotation.   My family and I have been drinking kale smoothies for the last 5 years and I definitely feel more energized and healthier from the smoothies and I feel that we are able to stave off colds and flu by boosting our immunity.

I have partnered with my new favorite loose leaf tea company, Tiesta Tea to create this Mango Green Tea Smoothie Recipe.  I wanted to create a recipe that was energizing, refreshing, lower in sugar and easy to make and I hope you’ll agree this recipe achieves those goals.  I tested the Mango Green Tea Smoothie with both the Tiesta Tea Lean Green Machine Tea and the Fruity Pebbles Tea.

The Tiesta Tea Lean Green Machine Slenderizer tea is a light citrus green tea with lemongrass, orange peel, lemon peel, and bergamot oil.  It has a refreshing, citrus-green tea flavor.  The Tiesta Tea Fruity Pebbles Selnederizer tea contains green tea, sweet blackberry leaves, pineapple bits, papaya bits, rose petals, raspberry bits and strawberry fruit granules.   Both resulted in a delicious smoothie, but I slightly prefer the Fruity Pebbles because of the fruit infused flavors of strawberry, blackberry and pineapple already in the tea.  My husband loved the Lean Green Machine version because he liked the subtle citrus flavors in the smoothie.  Either way, they both made a delicious smoothie, so pick up both bags and try them for yourself to see which you prefer.

Benefits of Green Tea:

Green tea is packed with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body, including improved brain function and fat loss.  Green tea helps keep you slender because the Tiesta Tea green tea blends contain green and oolong teas that suppress your appetite and boost your metabolism, helping you maintain a healthy weight.

While green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, it does still give you a good jolt, and when combined with the kale, you are getting a natural clean energy boost.

How to Make a Green Tea Smoothie

You need to use cooled brewed green tea to make the smoothie so you’ll want to prepare the tea ahead of time and cool to room temperature.  You can either use hot water to brew the tea, or you can cold-brew the tea overnight so that you don’t have to wait for it to cool when you are ready to make the smoothie.

In a blender, combine chopped kale, brewed green tea, mango chunks, banana and ice.   Puree until combined and frothy.  This is not overly sweet, so if you prefer your smoothie a little sweeter, you can add more mango.  I like to watch my sugar intake and the Tiesta Tea Fruity Pebbles Tea has delicious flavors including strawberry, pineapple, blackberry and raspberry, so because you get so much fruit flavor from the tea itself, I didn’t want to add any additional sugar (even natural) by adding more fruit.

Optional Nutritional Boost Add-ins:

I did not use any dairy or added protein in the smoothie, but if you wish to include a 1/2 cup of non-fat Greek yogurt, you can do so, or if you want to keep the smoothie dairy free, I recommend the new Lavva yogurt made from pilli beans for some added protein. You can also add chia seeds, ground flaxseed and cinnamon for extra nutritional boost.
