This avocado turkey burger recipe doubles the amount of yummy avocado by folding into the turkey burger and placing some on top!  A perfect ode to summer where grilling season reigns supreme.

Take advantage of the HOT sale on Jennie-O Ground Turkey at Safeway – just $2.97 for a 16 oz tray through August 18th and make these delicious avocado turkey burgers for dinner this week.

Turkey burgers are lighter than their beef counterparts and the key to a perfect turkey burger is to not overcook it, otherwise, it can dry out.  The addition of avocado in this recipe ensures the burgers are moist every time.

Serve with a bun, or save the carbs and calories and serve over a crunchy lettuce leaf.  Romaine, green leaf lettuce or butter lettuce cups would be perfect with fresh tomato and sliced onion, topped with more avocado.

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 2 cloves garlic (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • lettuce leaves or hamburger buns (optional)

How to Make Avocado Turkey Burgers

Step 1

Preheat grill to medium (375º-425º). Scoop 1 avocado into a medium bowl and mash with a fork. Add turkey, garlic, salt and pepper to bowl. Gently mix until evenly incorporated, being careful not to over mix.

Step 2

Divide and shape into four equal-size patties. Using your thumb, create a dent in the center of the patty, which allows for more even cooking. Place on grill and cook 6 minutes per side flipping once, or until the internal temperature reaches 165º. Remove from grill, tent with aluminum foil and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
