You can never go wrong with ham for the holidays and this glazed ham presents beautifully and tastes delicious. Serve your ham with mashed potatoes and roasted ginger green beans for a memorable holiday meal.

For as long I can remember we’ve had ham during the holidays.  It was perfect for entertaining a large crowd and is so easy to make for an intimate family dinner as well.  This ham glaze is slightly sweet from the peach preserves with a kick of tang and spice from the mustard – a perfect flavor combo for a Christmas ham.

Throw away the sugar packet that comes with the ham and make your own glaze with natural ingredients where you control the flavor and amount of sugar on your ham.

This recipe will work for both the hand shanks and the spiral sliced ham, but if you are using a non-sliced ham, you do not need the toothpicks recommended below.

Ingredients

  • 8-9 pound spiral cut ham
  • 1-2 cups water
  • 1 cup peach preserves
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons grainy mustard
  • 1 tablespoon thyme leaves

How to Make a Holiday Glazed Ham

Preheat oven to 300°. Pour 1/4-inch water into the roasting pan. Insert toothpicks into the front of the ham to keep slices together.

Tent with foil and let heat for 1 ½ hour.

Whisk to combine remaining ingredients, reserving half of the glaze for service.

Glaze ham every 5-10 minutes during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Let the ham rest 15 minutes, loosely covered, before serving.

Remove toothpicks and serve.

Spiral ham is precooked, so the temperature you are looking for when reheating is 135°.
